The Role

The Head to Health Geelong centre is an exciting new service which provides the Geelong community an alternative service to attend when experiencing mental health crisis. Service delivery will reflect principals of Trauma Informed Care and Recovery Oriented practice.

The Head to Health Geelong service will provide a holistic approach to care, addressing a range of social, physical, and emotional needs informed by the Collaborative Recovery Model (CRM) and supported by best practice in evidence-based and evidence informed care. The Head to Health Geelong service will have a strong focus on lived experience and will support a high engagement, multi-disciplinary crisis model. 

Wathaurong has partnered with Head to Health Geelong to provide a Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Worker aim to enhance the effectiveness of the Aboriginal community members accessing services within the Head to Health Geelong Hub.

By providing culturally appropriate care that contributes to improvement in Mental Health and substance abuse outcomes of Aboriginal community members, through the provision of: 

  • Assessing of aboriginal peoples needs relating to IAR levels of care required.
  • Providing assessment, and direct support to Aboriginal people with complex needs. 
  • Encouraging and raising awareness within the Aboriginal community on how to take positive action to deal with Mental Health and alcohol and other drugs issues.
  • Collaboration with Health Service team, other Wathaurong programs and external agencies to develop effective strategies for appropriate referral of clients.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Mental Health Qualification: It is a requirement of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing worker position that you hold, and provide evidence of, a Mental Health (or equivalent Human Services, Community Services) qualification of Certificate IV level or above. 
  • Computer literacy and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safe and appropriate culturally centred practices for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander focused services, including employment of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of social, physical, economical, and cultural strengths and challenges affecting Aboriginal communities and their ability to access adequate and quality services. 
  • Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.

Desirable

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
