Wayss is the largest provider of housing and family violence services in the South East Melbourne area. We exist so people can live a life free from family violence and have access to safe, sustainable and affordable housing.

Our vision is to be the major provider of social housing services and leading edge client support programs in the Southern Melbourne Metropolitan region.

We deliver funded services and programs across the local government areas of Greater Dandenong, Frankston, Casey and Cardinia.

We are now seeking a qualified Case Workers within for the DCHAP program at Dandenong.

The Wayss Drug Court Homelessness Assistance Program (DCHAP) provides homelessness assistance and support to people who have been sentenced by the Drug Court of Victoria in Dandenong and have been identified as experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. DCHAP team members work as part of a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team, including the Dandenong Drug Court Magistrate.

About the role

The case worker will provide homelessness assistance and support to people who have been sentenced to a Drug Treatment Order (DTO). The case worker will work with people to obtain short, medium and long term affordable accommodation that meets the requirements and obligations as part of their DTO.

Duties include:

  • Providing a responsive, flexible and outreach case management service to support peoples housing needs.
  • Assisting people to address the underlying factors contributing to their homelessness.
  • Empowering clients through a strengths-based model of practice.
  • Liaising and working closely with the Dandenong Drug Court team and relevant external agencies and organisations.
  • Undertaking safety planning with clients.
  • Networking with other service providers and programs.
  • Providing advocacy and support activities.

About you

We are looking for a passionate, client-focused individual who can work independently and collaboratively as part of a team and can demonstrate a commitment to the delivery of quality services to clients.

You will have:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social or Behavioural Science, Psychology or other relevant discipline at degree level or above.
  • Relevant experience working in the community services sector.
  • Sound knowledge of social housing including transitional housing management (THM) properties.
  • An understanding and commitment to the social and political context of homelessness.
  • Well-developed understanding of and proven ability to work with people with complex support needs, including alcohol & other drugs and mental health.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in:
    • Responding to requests for services.
    • Case management.
    • Providing advocacy and support.
    • Working autonomously and under limited direction.
  • Well-developed understanding of and ability to provide intensive support to people with complex needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to improving service delivery and practice.
  • A proven aptitude to relate positively and confidently with people from all walks of life, in a variety of settings.
  • Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

This role requires a current Driver’s Licence and valid Working with Children Check. The candidate will need to have successfully completed Wayss’ pre-employment screening and a police check and evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination compliance.
