Caseworker / Counsellor - Speak Out Program

You will provide high-quality casework and counselling support to young people with complex needs and trauma histories. You will work in a trauma-informed, highly responsive, proactive and innovative way, and develop collaborative relationships with other Weave team members and other services to ensure holistic support to young people experiencing co-existing mental health and AOD issues.

You will feel highly supported through regular supervision, access to peer review, opportunities for training and development and a friendly and experienced team around you.

Strong casework and counselling experience with young people with complex issues is required and experience working with Aboriginal young people and communities will be highly valued.

Classification for this position is SCHCADS Award Level 4 Paypoint 1-4 depending on qualifications and experience. Hourly rate range: $39.76 - $42.78 per hour depending on qualifications and experience plus significant salary packaging benefits.


  1. Tertiary qualifications in Human Services (Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development) Tertiary Counselling qualifications.
  2. Minimum 2 years experience in a casework and counselling role, preferably with young people in a community organisation.
  3. Well-developed counselling skills – demonstrated ability to draw upon a range of therapeutic models, preferably including Narrative Therapy.
  4. Demonstrated experience of working within a trauma-informed and strengths based, healing-centred framework.
  5. Experience providing counselling to marginalised young people experiencing a range of complex issues, in particular co-existing mental health and AOD issues.
  6. Understanding of the impacts of intergenerational trauma as well as systemic and social issues facing Aboriginal people and communities in the Waterloo/Redfern area and beyond.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Current NSW Working With Children Check clearance and National Police Check
  9. Common sense and a good sense of humour
  10. Must have current Class C drivers licence


  1. Knowledge of service networks in City of Sydney, and Sydney’s Inner West areas.
  2. Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal young people and communities
  3. Current First Aid certificate
  4. Experience in and/or training in cross-cultural communication
