The position is part time/9 days per week located at our Weave Kool Kids Program office, on Bidjigal Land, in Malabar.

Weave is a place based non-government organisation that supports children, young people, women, families and communities who have been impacted by systemic disadvantage and intergenerational trauma. With a 46 year track record, Weave has strong connections, experience and trust across the communities it services and the systems in which it operates, including government, families, local community and local NGOs.

Weave delivers services and programs that range in purpose and intensity from student tutoring and mentoring to domestic violence casework and counselling support, a driver licensing program, post-release support for people leaving custody, community based support for young people with coexisting AOD and mental health issues, parenting support, creative events, and leadership and advocacy programs.

Weave has a deep commitment to cultural safety and to providing culturally responsive support for Aboriginal people, who represent around 70% of the people supported across Weave’s programs.

About The Role:

Weave Kool Kids Program is an early intervention and prevention program for children, young people aged 7–18 years and their families. The program provides opportunities for children and young people to engage in skill-building recreational activities, therapeutic mentoring and youth leadership programs. The program also provides support to families through holistic casework and advocacy.

Weave Kool Kids Program provides support for children to learn, grow and develop together with their peers in their community. Through Weave Kool Kids, children and young people engage in fun, skills-based activities that highlight their strengths, improve social and emotional wellbeing and foster respect.

Weave Kool Kids Program works with children, young people and families who face complex social issues such as poverty, family breakdown and mental health issues that are symptomatic of the impacts of systemic disadvantage and intergenerational trauma.Weave Kool Kids Program is an integral part of the communities we work with and 90% of the children and young people engaged in Weave Kool Kids programs and activities are Aboriginal. The program maintains a strong working relationship with families, key community groups, schools, community leaders and Elders.

The Weave Kool Kids Program Caseworker will:

  • Provide holistic wrap-around casework and therapeutic case management support, practical assistance, advocacy, information and referral to relevant participants of the Weave Kool Kids Program and their families.
  • Ensure the casework support provided is in line with Weave’s “How We Do What We Do” practice framework, Weave’s values and Aboriginal Healing Framework.
  • Work from a proactive, responsive, trauma-informed, strengths-based, healing centred and culturally safe perspective.
  • Engage in outreach service provision where required, including accompanying clients to appointments or meetings.

Classification for this position is SCHCADS SACS Level 4 Paypoint 1-4 range depending on qualifications and experience. Weave hourly rates are above the SCHCADS rates. The current Weave hourly rates range for Level 4 Paypoint 1-4 are $45.08$48.50 exclusive of superannuation and annual leave loading. Salary packaging benefits are available.
