An excellent opportunity is available for a Data Governance Manager & Privacy Officer to join the Governance, Risk and Compliance department at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

The Institute is one of Australia's leading biomedical research organisations, with a strong national and international reputation for performing highly influential basic and translational research.

About the Position

This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining strong data governance and privacy at WEHI. In the first 12 months success will include:

  • Finalisation of WEHI data governance framework for research and Professional Services
  • Implementation of the data governance framework
  • Coordination of the delivery of privacy training to WEHI
  • Providing expert advise on data governance and privacy to WEHI staff and students
  • Working collaboratively with the Data Management and Human Research team to integrate data governance and privacy into WEHI processes

Key Responsibilities

  • Finalise and implement WEHI's Data Governance Framework.
  • Develop policies and procedures for implementation across the institute that correspond with the objectives of the Data Governance frameworks and privacy legislation.
  • Work with Information Technology Services and the Data Management Project team to delivery fit for purpose solutions to data governance and privacy.
  • Provide expert and timely advice on privacy as it applies to research and Professional Services.
  • Work collaboratively with researchers to address privacy in developing research areas that meet the requirements of research ethics and relevant legislation.
  • Develop policies and procedures for implementation across the institute that correspond with the objectives of the Data Governance frameworks and privacy legislation,
  • Establish and maintain metadata, data sharing standards and records keeping for the Institute.
  • Develop and deliver specialist resources and training activities to support an understanding of data governance and pr and related policies at the institute.

Selection Criteria

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification such as law and suitable experience working in the data governance and privacy area.
  • Experience with designing frameworks, policies, processes, and procedures that relate to Data Governance and privacy.
  • Proven experience in gaining agreement and successfully implementing these frameworks with relevant stakeholders.
  • Experience in implementing a change management plan.

Terms of Appointment

This position is an ongoing role in a full capacity. Salary is market rate and will depend on skills and experience. Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
