About the Position

The Victorian Coordinator is a critical role within a national alliance between community, health, research, government, and industry.

The Australian Alliance for Indigenous Genomics (ALIGN) aims to deliver equity and benefit to Indigenous Australians through genomics.

The Victorian Coordinator supports programs that address Indigenous governance, policy, capability development and data systems, and support researchers and health workers in the delivery of a clinical project.

The role would suit someone with extensive experience in program or operational management, and proven ability to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal organisations and communities. Knowledge of public tertiary and specialist health services would be an advantage along with an understanding of the barriers and opportunities for developing better health service pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. However, no prior experience in genetics or genomics is needed. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply.

Selection Criteria

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island communities, services or professional bodies
  • Experience working in complex health, community or policy-related projects
  • Ability to synthesise complex information and use it to inform decision making
  • Demonstrated operational and project management skills, including budgets and reporting
  • Tertiary qualifications are preferred in health, project management, community services or a related field
  • Vaccination against COVID-19 and Flu is required

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of genetics and genomics is useful but not essential, as training will be provided

Personal Qualities:

  • A self-starter with the ability to set goals, develop priorities and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated capacity to build respectful and collaborative working relationships with a broad range of professional and community stakeholders

  • Highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Terms of Appointment

This position is available for 2 years in the first instance in a part time capacity. Salary is Research Support Employee Level 7 ($94,222 - $101,996). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
