About the opportunity

The purpose of this position is to support the delivery of In-person Counselling Services within the Carer Gateway. The Young Carer Counsellor will have experience and a passion for working with young people, enjoy travelling to various locations to provide outreach counselling services to identified young carers where required (aged 5 - 25 years), as well as adult carers, in line with the principles outlined in the Carer Gateway In-Person Counselling Services practice guidelines. This position will work closely with young carers and sections of the community identified through collaboration with our Counselling Practice Lead and Community Engagement Young Carer Support Worker.

Key Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Utilising expert knowledge to deliver effective carer counselling services with the flexible application of evidence-based therapies.
  • Providing both individual counselling and therapeutic group work from Wellways offices, co-locations, school settings (main stream and Flexi schools), youth organisations, and youth justice services as required.
  • Managing external stakeholder relationships and developing service partnerships and cross-referral pathways.
  • Contributing to the development of and influencing community relationships to enable the delivery of counselling services to specific carer cohort groups, particularly young carers.
  • Willingness and availability to travel to schools across the Queensland 1 region (including Wider Brisbane area, City of Gold Coast, City of Caboolture, City of Moreton Bay including South Moreton Bay Islands).

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Qualified Counsellor, Psychologist or Social Worker with relevant qualifications recognised in Australia
  • Accreditation within an Australian professional association; Australian Counselling Association (ACA), Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Experience with clinical therapies including but not limited to Rogerian, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Child and Adolescent Play-Based Therapy, Creative and Expressive Therapies
  • Experience face to face counselling children and adolescents in individual and group settings ages 5-25
  • Experience delivering counselling services to young clients through trauma informed practice

  • Right to work within Australia
  • Current valid Driver's Licence and the ability to undertake some travel
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Children's Check- Blue card
