About the Role

The Way Back Support Service (TWBSS) is a psychosocial support service for individuals who are experiencing situational and psychological distress, which are contributing factors to suicide risk. The service provides participants psychosocial support for up to 12 weeks. The WMQ Way Back Support Service Peer Support Facilitator is responsible for delivering both individual and group non-clinical, holistic, psychosocial care and support to participants accessing TWBSS

In this role, the WMQ Way Back Support Service Peer Support Facilitator is responsible for delivering both individual and group non-clinical, holistic, psychosocial care and support to participants accessing TWBSS. Using personal experience of experience of suicidality, you will openly, appropriately, and effectively to build professional relationships with the people you support. Peer Support Facilitators work alongside Support Facilitators to deliver high quality care and support for people accessing the program.

It is required that the successful candidate has lived experience of suicidality and motivation to safely apply this experience in a recovery-oriented centric model.

What you will bring to the role

  • Passionate about making a positive change in the lives of people managing suicidality.
  • Ability to work in accordance with psychosocial rehabilitation, social inclusion, and recovery orientated practice frameworks.
  • Effectively contribute to the decreasing stigma and discrimination around having a lived experience of suicidality.
  • Provide assertive and practical support to access services related to individual needs. Outreach and in home/ community-based support.
  • Ability to connect and offer genuine understanding through shared experiences creating a sense of understanding and support.
  • Group facilitation experience.
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Intentional Peer Support; or Suicide Prevention Peer Work.
  • Demonstrated effective PC skills including MS Office and related applications packages (including reporting).
