Opportunity for a part time Senior Medical Officer in Cairns, Far North Queensland.  

About us:

Wheels of Wellness (WoW) Ltd is a progressive, values based not-for-profit charity, specialising in delivering primary healthcare to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the Cairns community. WoW’s highly motivated and committed team of health professionals and volunteers deliver free, person centered medical, allied healthcare and social and emotional support.

The WoW service model combines both a mobile outreach and fixed premises approach to the delivery of primary healthcare by general practitioners, Indigenous health workers, registered nurses and a mental health social worker. The aim is to provide a safe service, free from judgment where clients feel welcome and heard because we want them to remain engaged in their healthcare journey.

About the role:

 The Senior Medical Officer is an integral member of the executive team providing support to the Chief Executive Officer. This is a strategic position, responsible for leading and implementing the clinical service direction of the organisation. The role provides leadership that ensures delivery of safe, quality and efficient primary healthcare services by maintaining effective clinical systems, quality improvement processes and direct support to the clinical team. While not a specific requirement of this role, the Senior Medical Officer may provide direct clinical care to clients through rostered clinic sessions.  

The role is supported by a passionate and dedicated multidisciplinary team. The service is fully bulk billed, with appointment times set to meet the complex needs of our clients.

This role offers flexible working from home arrangements as not all hours worked need to be office based. 

About you:

Ideally, you will have:

  • Five or more years experience
  • Experience working with vulnerable people
  • The capability of exercising professional autonomy and responsibility 
  • A demonstrated commitment to improving the health and service outcomes for clients 
  • An effective and open communication approach to staff, clients and partner services
  • A working knowledge of clinical governance and quality improvement processes
  • A working knowledge of the Medicare Benefits Schedule
