This is an exciting opportunity to work with Ngarinyin people advancing their interests and management of the spectacular natural and cultural values of their Country in the remote central north Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Ngarinyin traditional owners maintain a strong connection to Country and continue to care for it with the vision to look after both the natural and cultural values in alignment with Wilinggin’s Healthy Country Plan (HCP), supported by the operation of sustainable businesses.

The WECO will develop monitoring plans and implement relevant programs with WACs healthy country teams in their delivery of on Country activities in line with these aspirations.

The Wilinggin Ecologist East (WEE) is a new position that will be working for Wilinggin Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) designing and implementing on-ground monitoring and evaluation in support of our Wilinggin Healthy Country plan and fire programs.

The position works with the Wilinggin Healthy Country team consisting of the Wunggurr, Nyaliga and Darran.gu Wulagurra Ranger teams, Wilinggin Land Operations Manager and Fire Managers West and East as well as Ngarinyin traditional owners across Wilinggin Country.

Foremost we are looking for a dynamic individual with excellent communication skills combined with well-developed expertise in environmental monitoring, education, logistics, safety and compliance management.

Knowledge and skills in Indigenous engagement and savanna fire management are important.

You should be able to build bridges of common understanding, enabling and supporting Ngarinyin traditional owners to monitor change over time with the implementation of healthy country activities including savanna fire management.
