Are you an education professional with a passion for working in community settings? Wingate Avenue Community Centre are looking for an Education Lead to manage our pre-accredited and accredited courses. We’re a small team of dedicated teachers and education coordinators that work with adult students in a community setting and we’re looking for a passionate, professional Education Lead to take our education programs to the next level.

Position Goal

The Education Lead will manage the delivery of quality accredited and pre-accredited vocational, employment and language, literacy and numeracy training programs:

  • Liaise and consult with teachers, education coordinators, social support workers and other staff to build a quality education program that is responsive to community need.
  • Build and maintain strategic connections with external organisations and services to support student outcomes.
  • Support the teachers, tutors and education coordinators to create learning environments that engage and motivate adult learners, using a strengths-based approach to learning, and collaborative approach to education administration.
  • Assist with other centre activities as required, including food relief program and marketing.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the centre’s mission and values, as described in the Constitution.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the centre’s aims and objectives, as described in the Strategic Plan.

Skills Requirement

Strong Communication Skills: The Education Lead must have excellent communication skills to ensure successful education outcomes. These include:

  • The ability to actively listen and absorb what others are saying, in order to respond appropriately.
  • Awareness of non-verbal communication, such as body language, eye contact, hand gestures, tone of voice, and colour of the message you are trying to convey.
  • The ability to convey your message clearly and directly to students and colleagues, in a way that can be understood by the other party.
  • Ability to be flexible and have an open-mind when talking with others, in order to understand the other’s point of view.
  • The ability to use a variety of tools to support communication, including online platforms.

Excellent Instructional Skills: The Education Lead will be required to explain concepts and activities to people will low English literacy and numeracy skills in a manner they can understand.

Strong Interpersonal Skills: The Education Lead works closely with students and colleagues, and must be able to work well with others and develop good relationships to ensure the best quality education is provided.

  • Friendly approach to students and colleagues, in order to build strong relationships.
  • Ability to understand what the other person is thinking and feeling in order to empathise with others and build rapport.
  • Respect for colleagues, students, community members, parents and children.

Adaptability: Students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. To achieve excellent education outcomes for all students, the Education Lead will be required to employ differentiated learning techniques, as well as delivery platforms, including online and remote delivery.
