About the program and role

We are looking for experienced, committed Support Workers, who are responsible for developing, assisting and supporting young people in a strength based, therapeutic model of care to provide growth and safety until they become adults. The program has a strong focus on facilitating and supporting the young people, their families and key stakeholders, to recover from trauma with a multi-disciplinary team-based approach through individualised, person-centred care.

Key responsibilities

  • provide individualised high-quality supports which promote clients’ health along with their physical, emotional, social and behavioural needs and goals
  • to facilitate the participation and inclusion of young people in the community
  • to act as a mentor to young people and engage positive change and discourage challenging behaviours
  • support clients in their day to day lives according to their individual care plans
  • with 24-hour care, we need people who can work all shifts including active nights and holidays
  • year-round rosters require availability at all times of the year
  • an understanding of reflective practice in the trauma-based environment

Essential criteria

  • Certificate IV / Diploma in Community Services or related field
  • previous experience working with children and young people with trauma-based disabilities.
  • Australian Citizens/Permanent Residents willing to work flexible hours including shift-work, weekends and sleep-overs
  • experience and understanding of WH&S issues in the workplace
  • outstanding interpersonal skills; flexible and patient with the ability to relate well within a team
  • written and verbal communication skills within a Mandatory Reporting framework
  • intermediate computer skills
  • valid working rights in Australia
  • current unrestricted NSW driver’s licence (must have as a minimum P2 licence to drive a Wesley Mission vehicle)
  • current First Aid Certificate
  • current Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Check and a satisfactory Criminal History Record Check (please note, this role will require employees to be registered under the Residential Care Workers Register).
