In 1963, while led by Reverend Dr Sir Alan Walker, Wesley Mission established Lifeline. Since then, the Lifeline movement has grown significantly. It is now Australia’s largest national phone support service, answering over a million calls a year.

As one of the 40 accredited Lifeline Australia Centres, Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland is owned and operated by Wesley Mission and supports more than 30,000 people annually through its 13 11 14 crisis support service. The Centre continues to grow its volunteer base and existing suite of support services within the community.

The Centre is one of several programs supported and operated under Wesley Mission’s suicide prevention branch, central to the broader Vision of Wesley Mission.

About the role

The Lifeline Administration Officer provides daily operational and team support in line with business plans and objectives.

Reporting to the Group Manager, the successful applicant will focus on maintaining our volunteer communications including monitoring generic email inboxes, social media channels and newsletters, providing administrative support to the Quality, Practice and Supervision Lead and the Training, Assessment & Accreditation Lead.

The position is situated at our CBD site, 220 Pitt Street, Sydney, but you may be required to attend our Sutherland site occasionally.

Essential criteria

  • strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, as well as cooperatively with others as required to support the achievement of individual and team goals
  • consistent initiative, discretion, judgement, and tact of a high level, with the ability to maintain confidentiality in dealing with issues of a sensitive or personal nature
  • highly organised time manager with a high attention to detail and the ability to think laterally and creatively in an environment of multiple and competing priorities
  • high proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, database management and reporting systems, social media, communication, and survey tools in a workplace environment
  • ability to learn new systems and provide team support in a timely manner
  • current WWCC
  • satisfactory National Criminal History Check
  • current, unrestricted licence and a willingness to drive between sites as required.

Desirable skills/knowledge

  • experience working in a community welfare, community engagement or mental health setting
  • experience working in a community welfare, volunteering, or mental health setting
  • experience introducing new systems/solutions to people
  • experience supporting the delivery of accredited training or a Registered Training Organisation
  • qualifications in Business Administration or relevant experience.
