About the role

Work across the Baw Baw, Bass Coast and South Gippsland Local Government Areas. Ongoing, part-time role working 25.5 hours per week during the school term.

‘Bupup balak wayipungang’ means ‘Helping/supporting the young kids.’ ‘Wayipungitj’ means ‘supporters.’

Wayipungitj work with kindergarten educators and service leaders to build their capacity to provide a service that is culturally inclusive and engages the local Aboriginal community. Wayipungitj engage with families in a few different ways to keep them connected to their kindergarten service and their children participating in kindergarten.

You will support the participation of Koorie children in funded kindergarten programs, enable culturally inclusive practices for Koorie families and children, advocate for Koorie families, support kindergarten services to actively involve the local community, and share information with Koorie families to enhance their participation and support their children’s transition to school.

What’s on offer

Ongoing part time position working 25.5 hours per week during the school term which means 10 weeks leave per year under a 46/52 model.

In addition to base salary and superannuation, you’ll also receive 17.5% leave loading and the ability to increaseyourtake-home pay by accessing up to $15,900 in salary packaging benefits that can be used on living expenses such as groceries, bills, clothing, streaming services, and much more.

There is also the option to increase your annual leave entitlements through our purchase leave program. You can access a 60% discount on the childcare subsidy gap fee when using a Uniting Early Learning service or centre.

About you

You will have experience in family or children’s services and a demonstrated understanding of the Aboriginal communities in which Uniting works and knowledge of relevant organisations in the community.

You will also have:

  • Credibility and acceptance within the Aboriginal community.
  • The ability to engage with parents, families and related local services.
  • Experience in early childhood care and education settings.
