THE ORGANISATION

Western Port Catchment Landcare Network is a volunteer-run organisation. Our network partners with state and local government agencies, community organisations and landholders to deliver environmental works on public and private land and to educate members and the wider community on the importance of sustainable land management and biodiversity.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Board is seeking to appoint a self-motivated Executive Officer who will be responsible for ensuring that Western Port Catchment Landcare Network achieves its objectives. This includes administration and management of staff and contractors, in accordance with statutory requirements, management of the network’s grant programs and organisation and delivery of key events and projects.

  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role in an organisation focused on the environment, or as an Executive Officer in a not-for-profit.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a Board.
  • Ability to secure grants from state and federal departments e.g. DELWP and DAWE.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the capability to cultivate and nurture effective relationships with staff, contractors, partners and stakeholders.
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited direction while managing varied and conflicting demands.
  • An interest in the environment and some understanding of mainstream environmental issues.

Experience

  • Demonstrated skills and experience at a senior level in managing the finances and staff of an organisation or department.
  • Good public and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work across cultures and with diverse sectors (such as government departments, indigenous groups, pastoralists etc).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic relationships, to cultivate aligned interests and nurture collaborative business development.
  • Interest and ability to cultivate digital engagement and utilise technology.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to communicate the principles of environmental conservation and good land management.
  • Tertiary education qualifications are preferred and a variety of disciplines might be appropriate e.g. Bachelor Degree, Masters or subsequent experience in areas such as in ecology, conservation, land management or business management.
  • A record of fundraising and supporter engagement is expected, ideally including bequest and volunteer programs.
  • High capacity for effective communication through a variety of media.
