Wunan Foundation is a leading Aboriginal development organisation based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives.

Wunan delivers the Burraluba Yura Ngurra Hostel in Halls Creek and is seeking a coordinator who will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the hostel. This role requires the worker to live onsite and supervise a small team. The program requires the right person who is committed to empowering Aboriginal community members to access the resources and support they need to enjoy quality of life.

Some key duties of the role:

  • Actively promoting the hostel to identified target groups
  • Maintaining the hostel, including cleaning, gardening and general upkeep
  • Responsible for organising repairs and maintenance to hostel facilities
  • Assisting with the intake and induction of new and current residents, including providing administration support for rental intake and other requirements as needed.
  • Support residents throughout their time at the hostel, including induction, tenancy support and referrals to external stakeholders.
  • Model and comply with workplace policies and procedures, including Health and Safety

Desirable criteria:

  • A strong understanding of Indigenous people in general, and of Indigenous people and communities in the East Kimberley in particular
  • Capacity to manage Microsoft applications and systems and processes that deliver measurable outcomes
  • First Aid and CPR

Pre-employment requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
  • Current Working with children clearance
  • Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license
