The Wurundjeri Cultural Heritage Compliance Unit is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal legislation including the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic.) and Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2018 (Vic.). Due to organisational growth, the Unit has an opportunity for an experienced Cultural Heritage Advisor to join the busy team.

Reporting to the Compliance Manager, this role will be responsible for:

• Assisting developers, land users and land managers with assessments, land protection and land management in relation to existing and proposed development activities
• Working closely with Wurundjeri Elders around all aspects of Cultural Heritage Management Plans and associated advice provided to sponsors and government
• Review, advise upon and report on compliance around delivery of approved plans
• Support intergenerational knowledge and skill transfer/development between Elders, field workers and youth

The successful candidate will hold:

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Anthropology or Archaeology
• Experience in a similar Cultural Heritage Advisor role, preferably with a First Nations organisation
• Thorough knowledge of associated legislation including Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006
• Superior verbal and written communication skills
• A current driver's licence
• Experience with enforcement and investigation preferred
