Purpose of Position

The position will be a part-time fixed term position at a Level 5 SCHCADS Award, for 45 hours a fortnight/ 22.5 hours per week, until 30th June 2026.

 This PHN Project Worker will support people who have intellectual disability, who are victim-survivors of violence to engage in peer and lived experience workforce development, to participate, and gain knowledge in co-design and governance processes. The first stage involves working alongside a Peer Worker and a lived experience Project Advisory Committee, to co-design and co-facilitate accessible psychoeducational groups for people with an intellectual disability that have experienced DFVSV. The groups will focus on providing knowledge, opportunities for discussion and support in relation to DFVSV, healthy relationships, rights and self-advocacy in the Brisbane South region.   

During the second stage, Project Worker will undertake a collaborative group project alongside people with intellectual disability creating accessible resources, focused on prevention of violence against people who have an intellectual disability. This will involve co-designing and co-facilitating a series of trauma informed, accessible workshops alongside a peer worker, allowing project participants opportunity to plan, co-design and provide ongoing feedback of resources throughout their development.  

The PHN project worker will recruit and support the Peer Workers and Project Advisory Committee to share their lived experience expertise, and knowledge, through ongoing participation in all aspects of the project. The role requires the worker to support WWILD peer workers and provide support and knowledge around governance processes to the Project Advisory Committee, with the support of the second project worker and manager.

The role may also include providing relevant referral and information support to people with a disability, their families, carers, support workers and other professionals.

This is a part time fixed term position and is located in Wooloowin, Brisbane. Some travel may be required in Queensland and/or nationally.

Salary and Conditions

  • Level 5 of the QCSCA Award under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHCADS) (26) with accompanying salary sacrifice benefits.

  • The position is reliant on the availability of ongoing funding.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Manage or support community projects, including meeting key performance indicators and deliverables, timelines and budgets with support from the manager or other project staff.
  • Recruit, support, manage and supervise peer workers as necessary.
  • Recruit and support the Project Advisory Committee.
  • Co-design and co-facilitate psychoeducational groups with people who have intellectual or learning disabilities.
  • Co-Design and develop resources in collaboration with people who have intellectual or learning disabilities, for professional or easy read audiences.
  • Participate or lead the evaluation of the PHN Brisbane South Project.
  • Liaise and negotiate with stakeholders, contractors, partners and funding bodies as required.
  • Actively contribute to creating an inclusive environment for clients and provide relevant referral and information support to people with a disability, their families, carers, support workers and other professionals.
  • Actively commit and productively participate as a team member and in its operations to achieve the outcomes of the organisation, the provision of high quality and client focused service delivery.
  • Undertake appropriate administrative tasks required by the organisation and prepare appropriate data and reports as directed to the ensure accountability to funding bodies.
  • Uphold the human rights of all service users in compliance with the Human Rights Act 2019.

Selection Criteria

In applying for this position, you are required to submit a written response addressing the selection criteria listed below.

  • Experience in project management work
  • Understanding of the intersectional nature of drivers and enablers of violence against women and non-binary people with an intellectual disability.
  • Experience or understanding of working alongside lived experience and peer workers.
  • Experience supporting people recovering from DFV and/or SV, and/or supporting people with intellectual and learning disability within a Human Rights framework.
  • Experience and skills in providing group support and consultation.
  • Strong written, presentation, oral and inter-personal communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with a wide range of government, community and private sector stakeholders.  
  • An ability and willingness to contribute to the work of a team and work collaboratively with WWILD staff and external stakeholders in undertaking research, training and education programs. 

Essential Requirements

  • Current driver’s license.
  • An ability to utilise a range of basic business software packages.
  • Eligible for a ‘suitability card’ from the Commission for Children and Young People. This position is subject to pre – employment history checks including a working with children suitability check (Blue Card).
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Human Services or other relevant qualifications.
