Crime Stoppers Victoria (CSV) is an independent not-for-profit organisation that partners with the community, media, and police to encourage people to prevent crime and to confidentially share what they know about unsolved crime or suspicious activity.

CSV makes a real difference to the lives of Victorians every day: since its establishment in Victoria in 1987, it has received over 1.55 million tips from the community, resulting in over 29,700 arrests and the recovery of more than $445 million worth of drugs, property and cash.

In the past financial year, CSV achieved record breaking results with over 120,000 contacts from the community, an increase of of 24% compared to the previous year.

About the Role

CSV is seeking applicants for non-executive director appointments.

Non-executive directors work closely with other CSV Board members in order to deliver the necessary governance, oversight, and strategic direction so that CSV can effectively support crime prevention in Victoria.

CSV is looking for candidates who will complement and expand on the skill sets of the existing CSV Board. Specifically, CSV is looking for candidates who have one of the following backgrounds:

  • Finance background: candidates with accounting qualifications who have expertise in managing and reporting entity finances, with the ability to develop financial strategies and undertake risk and audit assessments.
  • Legal background: candidates with legal qualifications who have provided advice to organisations and/or Boards on legal issues, obligations and similar matters such as contracts, employment law, regulation and intellectual property.
  • Risk background: candidates who have expertise in implementing, managing or overseeing risk management and compliance frameworks.
  • Governance background: candidates who have experience in managing and advising on complex corporate governance matters, potentially from previous work serving on Boards or working with Boards and leadership teams as a consultant or employee.

In putting the above skills to good use, a candidate will serve on one or more Board committees, prepare for and attend a minimum of five Board meetings a year (preferably in-person), and participate in periodic workshops alongside any other meetings or events required to deliver in this role.

About You: Key Selection Criteria

The key criteria for this role:

  • Senior executive, non-executive or equivalent experience in finance, legal, risk and governance roles, whether with private, government, or not-for-profit organisations.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, particularly across multiple external partners.

  • Integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the safety of the community.

While not necessary, prior experience in the following areas will be valued:

  • Community engagement, particularly with CALD community members
  • Criminal justice, with personal experience or professional interest in social work, drug abuse, family violence, justice, jails, psychology and/or rehabilitation; and
  • Director experience on another Board.

It is a further requirement of this position that you have a valid National Criminal History Record Check and a current VIC Working with Children Check.
