Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Aboriginal Senior Youth Worker to join our Buridjga Youth Team on the Central Coast of NSW. The Senior Youth Worker will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing programs and services that address the needs and interests of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander youth, aged between 12-24 years. The position will also provide mentorship, guidance, and support to youth workers in the team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan and implement, culturally appropriate services and activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth on the Central Coast
  • Provide one-on-one support and guidance to vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth facing challenges or seeking support to achieve their goals
  • Maintain accurate records including client case notes, case plans and reports in line with organisational policy and procedures
  • Collaborate with community partners, schools, and other organisations to expand program services
  • Work in collaboration with the Team Leader to undertake and provide program evaluations, progress reports and audits as required
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in youth development and incorporate them onto service delivery and design
  • Uphold organisational policies and procedures, ensuring safety, well-being and confidentiality of all participants

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, colleagues and community stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of youth development principles and the ability to apply this in service design and implementation
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, culturally dynamic workplace
  • Leadership skills and the ability to motivate, inspire and empower other team members
  • Experience developing and delivering harm minimisation and substance reduction programs for young people experiencing addiction to alcohol and other drugs (AOD)
  • Experience and knowledge of youth mental health programs
  • Experience is using and monitoring client data management systems
  • Knowledge of and experience using Data Exchange (DEX) reporting is desirable

Qualifications

  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • Diploma or Bachelor qualification in social work, education or related field
  • Minimum 2 years industry related experience
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal communities essential
  • Clearance of Working With Children Check (WWCC) is mandatory
  • Satisfactory National Police Check is mandatory
  • Valid NSW drivers licence essential
