Job Summary:
The Cultural Carer Support Worker offers specialised care and support to carers looking after Aboriginal children in the Out of Home Care (OOHC) system. This role focuses on creating a safe space for carers to discuss the unique challenges they and the children in their care face. The Cultural Carer Support Worker will implement trauma-informed care practices, support carers throughout their care journey, conduct regular carer reviews, and perform carer assessments as needed to support the Permanency Support Program (PSP).
Skills:
- Effective Leadership and people management and development skills and demonstrated ability to build productive internal and external relationships;
- Experience in supporting carers and Children and Young People with complex families and who have experienced trauma
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as Accreditation, legislation, operating and maintenance instructions and government regulations.
- Proven ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to formulate a work plan and to report against its implementation.
- Certificate four qualifications in Community Services or equivalent.
- Self-Motivated, with the ability to work unsupervised.
- Shared lives Shared Stories trained
- Previous experience using Carer register.
- Computer Literacy – including Word processing, Databases, Spreadsheets, Electronic Mail, Internet and MDS.
- Currently hold NSW driver’s license
- Currently hold NSW Working with Children’s check
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with PSP teams and other service providers to ensure adherence to and maintenance of all aspects of the PSP.
- Oversee casework requirements for kin and foster care.
- Provide cultural support to carers of children and young people in the care of the Minister.
- Listen to children and young people to understand their needs and engage them in their reviews and case plans.
- Assist children and young people in identifying their needs and engaging in their reviews and case plans.
- Provide accurate information about the program to current and prospective carers
- Assess potential carers, including conducting home visits and documenting obtained information.
- Offer ongoing support to PSP caseworkers working with children, young people, and carer placements as needed.
- Conduct carer reviews as required
Qualifications:
- Cert 4 in Community Services / or equivalent and or willingness to pursue studies in a relevant field
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities
