YFS has an exciting new opportunity to pilot a full-time Men’s Counsellor role within our Responsible Men program, working alongside Behaviour Change Facilitators to support effective interventions and engagement with men using domestic and family violence and improve the safety of victim-survivors as a priority.

Responsible Men is a men’s behaviour change intervention program that explores beliefs that drive abusive behaviour. The position will promote safety and accountability, with a focus on empowering men to take responsibility for their own mental health and wellbeing.

If you’ve got what it takes to work with a holistic, strength based and trauma informed approach with men using violence, this could be the role for you. You will work alongside an experienced and established team as part of our innovative, best-practice program. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative, supportive and respected team standing tall to end domestic violence in Logan.

About the job

  • Role location: Slacks Creek
  • Role type: Full time, maximum term contract until 31 July 2025.
  • Pay range: $106,730 a year, with salary packaging exempt from Fringe Benefits Tax available.

In this role you will:

  • prioritise women and children’s safety through risk management and individual counselling with men
  • work with men addressing compounding risk factors and/or trauma in men who use violence
  • need to be familiar and work in accordance with legislation and practice principles, standards and guidelines
  • have a deep understanding of the gendered nature of domestic violence and evidence that you have applied this understanding in your practice
  • benefit from working in an innovative team, with a strong practice framework that increases safety for women and children and holds men accountable for violent and abusive behaviours.

  • have a collaborative team approach to enhancing the safety of primarily women and children
  • have a person-centred approach to men who have used violence and have complex histories to provide holistic, strength based and trauma-informed counselling.
