Be part of a team that’s really making a difference

We are looking for a Housing Specialist who is keen to develop their professional experience and skills. In this unique role, you’ll be embedded in one of our Youth teams to collaboratively deliver solutions for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

You will work closely with youth workers and property managers, to prioritise the needs of young people who often need immediate support.

You will support young people not just to find housing, but to sustain tenancies and maintain stable homes.

This is an opportunity to also build the capability of youth support workers, as well as building your own knowledge and experience from a trauma-informed delivery perspective.

This is a rewarding role in which you will be both challenged and supported to grow as a housing specialist.

In this role you can really make a difference to young people’s lives, not just to overcome crisis, but to thrive.

About the job

  • Role location: Slacks Creek
  • Role type: Permanent full-time
  • Pay range: $94,160 a year with salary packaging exempt from Fringe Benefits Tax available

In this role you will:

  • support young people to navigate the housing system to achieve their long-term housing goals
  • work collaboratively across different teams (both within YFS and externally) as part of a multi-faceted team
  • build relationships with real estate agents, Centrelink, the Department of Housing, and community housing providers to help get young people housed
  • build the capacity of youth workers to respond to young people’s housing needs.

About you

Aside from meeting the key capabilities outlined in the related role description available from https://www.yfs.org.au/work-for-us/, you’ll be a great fit if you:

  • have an in-depth knowledge of the social, community and private rental housing sectors and the housing issues relevant for young people
  • have independent problem solving, analysis and decision-making skills
  • have an understanding of trauma-responsive practice
  • are flexible and adaptable to clients’ changing needs
  • have a demonstrated ability to work with First Nations peoples.
