We are a not-for-profit, registered Indigenous Corporation and charity responding to the decrease in brain health in our communities. We deliver and co-design personalised, and community-based programs supported by neuroscientific research to address the impact of adverse life events in children, young people, and families.

One of our core programs, The Yili Program, is a short-term alternative education program, invaluable in its uniqueness and flexibility. Students gain experience in a wide range of activities that build their confidence and self-esteem, which increases their engagement with learning.

We are currently seeking a passionate Teacher to join our team on a full-time basis across our locations in Stones Corner and Inala. This is the perfect opportunity for an experienced Teacher who is interested in utilising their knowledge and skills outside of the traditional education system.

About the role:

  • Competitive salary and ongoing development opportunities, particularly relating to neuroscience and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge of cultures and practice.
  • Teaching a small group of youth (approximately 3 – 8 kids on a typical day), you will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on participant’s ongoing development.
  • Primarily, this role is responsible for designing and delivering personalised learning plans for high-risk youths aged between 10 and 17 in line with national curriculum frameworks.
  • You will have the autonomy to design your own lessons and guide the career and training pathways for participants.
  • To ensure you are able to effectively deliver the program, you will have the assistance of an additional Teacher and Youth Workers in each class.
  • The role will follow a standard 38 work week (8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday). Contact time is generally between 9:00am - 3:00pm.

Your day may include:

  • The design and development of tailored lessons and educational activities for individual young people participating in our Yili Program.
  • The confident delivery of educational activities, using a variety of teaching models to meet participants’ needs.
  • Working collaboratively to ensure inclusion, access and participation and to maximise learning outcomes for all students.
  • The accurate record keeping of attendees, grades, lesson notes and other key information.
  • Role modelling Yiliyapinya’s values.

Our ideal new addition will have:

  • At least 5 years’ teaching experience.
  • Experience in settings with exposure to mental health services, such as occupational therapy, social work, psychology, and knowledge of mental health first aid.
  • Demonstrated experience working with high-risk youth aged between 10 and 17.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - both written and verbal communication.
  • High computer literacy.
  • Strong organisation, time management and administrative skills.
  • Ability to build strong rapport with all stakeholders.
  • Registered Teacher.
  • Valid Blue Card.
  • Valid Driver’s licence.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.

Desirable:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in Mental Health, Psychology, Counselling, Social work or other related discipline.
