ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY
Yugul Mangi Development Aboriginal Corporation (YMDAC) was established on 10 April 2008 to develop the social, economic, governance and cultural wellbeing of the Ngukurr community.
On the northern side of the Roper River, these lands extend from Blue Mud Bay across toward Bulman, down the Wilton River Valley to Roper River and out to the Gulf. On the southern side of the river the lands extend from the west of Buddawka to the Hodgson River and includes the Towns River and Limmen National Park and the Marla Land Trust.
Our aim is to strengthen cultural governance authority, social and community development services that improve individual, family and community social and emotional wellbeing and build a sustainable viable local economy creating full employment, career pathways and an end to generational welfare dependence.
Through community led decision-making YMDAC deliver a large array of social programs and develops business to provide services in Ngukurr returning the surpluses back into the community. YMDAC promotes the growth of community owned enterprises, Joint Venture Partnerships and supports local business development, within the remote Aboriginal community of Ngukurr, (320km East of Katherine) and its surrounding areas.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Possess the drive and passion to work in remote Indigenous community, working with and supporting the Director of Social Services and community members to make a real difference in people lives.
- Ability to assist in overseeing the staff in the relevant programs ensuring that program delivery is achieved to a high standard.
- Must have well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to negotiate with and advocate for youth, children, and families and to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a capacity to operate effectively in a political environment.
- Assess staffing needs and ensure that access to and completion of local and territory mandatory training, identify staff development and career progression, recommend new hires and promotions adhering to industrial relations legislation.
- Possess a comprehensive knowledge and experience in contemporary leadership practices, including an ability to oversee and assist in leading staff in an environment of change.
- Have the capability to assist the Director of Social Services in providing leadership and management in the delivery of Social Services Program by ensuring quality services are delivered in a manner that supports building a stronger community. The position will report into the Director of Social Services who will work in partnership with the relevant Executives/Board and Committee members to support the delivery of safe, effective, and sustainable support to the community and provide strategic advice to the Board of Directors
- Ability to assist in reviewing monthly financials with the Director of Social Services, to ensure compliance with operations/contract requirements. Adhere to negotiated annual budget and spending requirements.
- Capability to assume the duties of the Director of Social Services in her absence or as requested.
- Produce statistical reports and uses data to inform service delivery.
- Ability to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual written reports for the Director of Social Services.
- Demonstrated well-developed conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to make complex assessments and make decisions.
- Demonstrated experience in assisting in preparing tenders, establishing services, and exceeding program expectations, and promoting their success.
- Ability to support the Director of Social Services in providing highly developed mentoring, coaching and supervision skills and the ability to motivate and influence others in a positive manner.
A MUST HAVE:
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, social or behavioural sciences and/or community development with experience working with children and families in a similar role.
- Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
- National Police Criminal History Report (less than three months old) with acceptable outcome.
- Northern Territory Driver's License (or willingness to obtain within agreed timeframe).
- Demonstrated currency of pandemic and job specific vaccinations (and boosters).
- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain within agreed timeframe).
