The Community Organiser will be responsible for building and mobilising a volunteer base to support the federal election campaign of Zoe Daniel, Community Independent Federal MP for Goldstein. This role is critical for engaging with community members, increasing voter turnout, and ensuring that the campaign's message reaches as many potential supporters as possible. Key responsibilities include, volunteer recruitment, training, and onboarding, as well as managing outreach efforts, such as door knocking, in targeted neighbourhoods.

About Zoe Daniel MP

Zoe Daniel is the Community Independent Member of Parliament for the Federal Electorate of Goldstein across Melbourne’s South East and Bayside suburbs. She was elected in 2022 as part of theCommunity Independent movement that made history and changed the face of Australian politics.

Zoe is now seeking a second term. If reelected, Zoe, along with other Community Independents will play an important role in achieving a balanced parliament, one that serves the interests of their communities, not party interests.

This role will play a crucial role in getting Zoe reelected into Parliament to fulfil this mission

Key Responsibilities

You will work with our Lead Organiser to deliver the following activities between now and the next election:

  • Door knocking
  • Flyering and street stalls
  • Letterboxing
  • Volunteer meetups and social activities
  • Phone banking
  • Data parties
  • Pre-poll and polling day activities

This includes

  • Community Building and Volunteer Management - Recruiting, training and managing teams of volunteers to deliver these activities

  • Communication - Writing volunteer emails and other communications motivating and mobilising volunteers to action

  • Data Management - Maintaining accurate records of community interactions and volunteer activities, using campaign management tools to track engagement and measure success.

  • Website Updates - Maintaining our volunteer portal - ensuring all activities are online and up to date

  • Volunteer Welfare - ensuring all volunteers have a safe and supportive work environment, responding to needs and issues as they arise.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Strong Passion for and Experience in Community Organizing and civic engagement - a proven track record of grassroots organising and mobilising communities around social or political issues, preferably past experience on an election campaign, including door knocking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences in both written and verbal form. Experience writing campaign and volunteer communications, preferred.
  • Strong Organisational Skills - an ability to work to tight deadlines and to develop and maintain user friendly processes to coordinate volunteer teams
  • IT and Computer skills - comfortable using new software. Previous experience with volunteer databases and canvassing software preferred.
  • Leadership Ability: Experience in managing, motivating and supporting volunteer teams
  • Strategic Thinker: Ability to develop and implement effective grassroots strategies to maximise community impact.
  • Collaborative: Strong team player who values input from others and works well in a diverse environment.
  • Adaptable, Proactive and Resourceful: Flexible in responding to changing priorities and campaign needs, including to work evenings and weekends as required by the campaign schedule. A proven ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working on political campaigns, particularly at the federal level.
  • A strong understanding of the Goldstein electorate, including knowledge of the local political landscape and key community issues.

Salary/Compensation: $80-$100K including Super, depending on experience.
