The Media Adviser and Content Creator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the media strategy and content creation for Independent Federal Member for Goldstein, Zoe Daniel. This role involves crafting compelling narratives, engaging with media outlets, and creating high-quality content across various platforms to effectively communicate Ms Daniel’s policies as community independent and sharing her work and activities with the public.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Media Strategy and Planning:
    • Help Develop and execute comprehensive media strategies to enhance the Member for Goldstein’s visibility and explain her policies and actions.
    • Monitor and analyse media trends and remain up to date with current news coverage, providing insights and recommendations to the Member and her team.
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, and stakeholders.
  • Content Creation:
    • Produce high quality content, including writing media releases and speeches, supporting the writing of op-eds, social media posts, videos, and graphics.
    • Manage the Member’s official social media accounts, ensuring consistent and engaging content, curating and managing threads and responding to comments.
    • Collaborate with photographers, videographers, and graphic designers to produce visually appealing content.
  • Media Relations:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and coordinate and arrange interviews, media conferences, and other media events.
    • Prepare the Member for media appearances, including providing verbal and written briefings to the member.
  • Communications Support:
    • Assist in drafting and editing policy documents, reports, and correspondence.
    • Ensure all communications are aligned with the Member’s values and  policies as a community independent MP.
  • Crisis Management:
    • Develop and implement communication plans to handle sensitive issues and complex issues. 
  • Travel
    • This job requires regular travel to Canberra for all parliamentary sitting weeks.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in media relations, public relations, journalism, or a related field required. 
    • Experience in political communications is highly desirable. 
    • Knowledge of the electorate of Goldstein and the community independent movement and values highly desiable. 
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
    • High level video and audio editing skills and highly developed understanding of social media storytelling and trends across digital platforms. 
    • Strong understanding of media landscape, including traditional and digital media.
    • Proficiency in social media platforms and content management systems.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Strong organisational and project management skills
