We are looking for a Life Sciences Manager to join our Life Sciences leadership team at Healesville Sanctuary.  This is an exciting opportunity to lead a newly formed Life Sciences team.  The Life Sciences Manager role will oversee the Tasmanian Devil and Guthega Skink conservation breeding programs, the Detection Dog Program, and the Platypus and Reptile sections.  They will be responsible for enabling continuous improvement to animal husbandry, animal welfare and visitor experiences at Healesville Sanctuary.  The Life Sciences Manager will work closely with the other Life Sciences Managers and the General Manager of Life Sciences to deliver the objectives of the Life Sciences department and Zoos Victoria. We are looking for an experienced manager with the skills to develop and maintain positive and effective relationships in a dynamic zoo environment. 

The successful candidate will:

  • Work closely with Zoos Victoria's Wildlife and Conservation team to develop and implement conservation and research targets for Tasmanian Devils and Guthega Skinks, and lead the keeping teams to meet these operational targets.
  • Oversee the operational management of the Detection Dog Program based at Healesville Sanctuary
  • Support the continued development of the recently established Australian Platypus Conservation Centre, including the redevelopment of the Platypus Habitats
  • Have proven experience leading teams and promoting positive team cultures
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills and creative approaches to problem solving
  • Possess a sound knowledge of animal welfare principles, be accountable for ensuring animal's environments support their welfare needs and be committed to implementing animal training and enrichment programs.
  • Require a biological sciences degree as well as developed conceptual and analytical skills
  • Lead the Life Sciences team in developing visitor experience programs that are integrated with animal care events, and have experience maintaining display exhibit standards.
