ABOUT US

Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island Enterprises (GEBIE) operates a Community Development Program (CDP) in the Communities of Angurugu, Umbakumba and Milyakburra and at a number of outstations in the Groote Archipelago. CDP supports job seekers to build skills, address barriers and contribute to their communities through a range of flexible activities.

Due to our increased caseload, GEBIE is looking for additional Employment Consultants to assist the team with case management. The Employment Consultant works in partnership with job seekers to obtain vocational and non-vocational skills required to assist them in obtaining and sustaining meaningful employment. Using a strengths-based assessment approach, the Employment Consultant will assist the job seeker to develop and navigate a career pathway which is documented in a job plan. Critical to the role is an unwavering belief in a job seekers ability to succeed balanced with a determination to make it happen. The role also supports the development and implementation of pre-employment strategies, delivered through a flexible case management model, that focus on achieving both social outcomes and sustainable employment.

ESSENTIAL

Essential for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in working with clients with complex needs, such as people with a disability, alcohol and other drug dependencies, homelessness, domestic violence, and psychological disorders
  • Experience working with the ESCN system
  • Sound knowledge & understanding of CDP’s contractual requirements
  • Ability to provide innovative case management services that address disadvantaged job seekers’ complex barriers
  • Excellent communication (written & oral), interpersonal & negotiation skills, including the ability to engage disadvantaged job seekers and implement effective counselling strategies
  • Proven ability to work as part of a dynamic, targets and outcomes driven team
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander cultures and issues affecting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australian society
  • The ability to obtain a Working With Children and National Police Clearance
  • Administration skills and experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Empathy and understanding of issues and challenges faced by staff and job seekers in remote communities
  • Resilience, cheerfulness, and a willing “can-do” attitude
  • Full manual drivers’ license.

DESIRABLE

Desirable for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience working within an Indigenous not for profit organisation.

OTHER INFORMATION

Pre-employment screening, including an AFP criminal record check, will be undertaken on the person who is being recommended for appointment.

This position will be based at Angurugu Community, Groote Eylandt, however the successful candidate may be expected to operate from other sites as required.

The remuneration package for this position includes:

  • A generous salary package based on experience
  • Relocation assistance to the Groote Eylandt Archipelago
  • Fully furnished accommodation, including electricity based in Alyangula. Alyangula offers facilities such as gyms, a swimming pool, basketball court, tennis court and a 9-hole golf course, all at your doorstep.
  • 5 weeks annual leave per annum
  • $2,500 worth of travel allowance per annum
  • Salary packaging available up to $15,899 per FBT year to reduce tax and increase your take home pay.

In accordance with the COVID-19 Directions (No. 55) 2021 - Directions for mandatory vaccination of workers to attend the workplace issued by the Northern Territory Chief Health Officer, GEBIE must ensure that all persons who attend Groote Eylandt on and from 13 November 2021 have received the first dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, and all persons who attend Groote Eylandt on and from 24 December 2021 have received two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine. You acknowledge and agree that you will be required to provide proof of your vaccination status, which will be securely stored in accordance with Australian privacy legislation.
