The Role

The OHS & Facilities Manager will lead and facilitate compliance with OHS guidelines and provide a safe workplace according to legal standards as well as ensure efficient and effective management of assets, resources and suppliers.

The main component of this position is a leadership role in all things OHS.  The role will focus on legislative compliance, leading projects and implementing continuing development of OHS and associated programs.

The role will work closely with key stakeholders to identify hazards, ensure organisational compliance, recommend, and implement cost-effective solutions, as well as advise on and implement relevant OH&S and Facilities related policies, procedures and best practice. 

Day to day duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead key OHS projects
  • Compliance audits
  • Lead the continuing development of OHS and associated programs
  • Implement the aforementioned programs though stakeholder management and resource allocation
  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
  • Create policies, procedures and processes to promote and maintain OHS as a priority
  • Chair, minute and coordinate safety committee meetings
  • Manage and maintain first aid, HSR and fire warden resources for all shifts
  • Conduct workplace risk assessments
  • Manage OHS training for employees, volunteers and other stakeholders
  • Advise and instruct senior management and staff on all safety-related topics
  • Identify and mitigate potential unsafe practices
  • Prepare reports and provide statistical information to management team
  • Lead improvement of incident reporting, review and associated risk management systems
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards or practices
  • Reporting
  • Vendor management
  • Manage OH&S and Facilities budget

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Degree in OHS, Cert IV in Work Health and Safety, together with relevant facility management experience
  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of relevant OH&S regulations and legislation
  • MSc or BSc in Safety Management, Engineering or relevant field is preferred, but not essential.
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to perform under direction and work autonomously
  • Working knowledge of safety management information systems is desirable
