Purpose of the Senior Job Coach role

The Disability Employment Catalyst project is partnering with Achieve Australia, Yooralla and Life Without Barriers to provide sustainable, good quality jobs for candidates with disability in the disability/care sector.

We are seeking an experienced Job Coach to work with candidates with disability, their support services and partner employers.

You will have experience in understanding jobseekers interests and needs and know how to work towards creating great job matches. You will also have experience with working with employers and understanding their interests and needs and be committed to achieving sustainable job matches that create mutual benefit for jobseekers and their employers.

Your expertise and lived experienced of disability will be an advantage in this role. You will report to the Project Manager and work closely with the Job Coach Consultant.

Role Responsibilities:

Below are some of your areas of responsibility you will be expected to deliver in your role as Senior Job Coach:

Candidate Support

  • Respond to website inquiries from jobseekers and use their preferred communication method to make contact and set up a virtual appointment.
  • Determine candidates’ suitability to participate and if roles in the DEC project align with their interests, their location, their skills, and their needs.
  • Undertake detailed interviews with candidates to obtain a comprehensive understanding of their interests, skills, location, needs and support requirements.
  • Assist candidates with training and support as and when required. Provide mentoring support for candidates to identify training gaps and make recommendations.
  • Prepare a summary profile for job each candidate to ensure a strong job match and potential workplace adjustment requirements.
  • Negotiate with candidate’s support services which may be DES, Workforce Australia or NDIS support service to determine the services they will provide with resume building, obtaining clearance checks and employment support.
  • Prepare candidates for interviews/assessments and with partner organisations.
  • Maintain regular contact with candidates in the talent pool.

Partner / Employer support

  • Work closely with DEC’s partner organisations to understand role requirements for the purpose of job matching to DEC candidates.
  • Assist the DEC partner organisations with a virtual job analysis to determine role inherent requirements, understand the working environment and potential workplace adjustments.
  • Brief recruiter and/or hiring managers on candidate requirements.
  • Assist recruiters and hiring managers to select a candidate interview/assessment approach.
  • Assist hiring managers, candidates, and their support service to develop and implement the Employment Support Plan
  • Provide guidance and support while facilitating relationship between employer and employee in role negotiation.
  • Collaborate with employers to create inclusive and accommodating work environments.

Stakeholders and Support Organisations

  • Establish and maintain relationships with candidate support services (DES, Workforce and NDIS support services)
  • In collaboration with DEC project team, negotiate DEC specific requirements with providers.
  • Negotiate candidate services for employment preparation, training, interview, placement, and retention support.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Personal lived experience with disability.
  • A bachelor's degree in social work, education, counselling, or a related field or
  • Previous experience in job coaching, career development, and or working with people with disability. Experience in job tailoring and carving will be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with disability rights, accommodations, and laws related to employment (such as the Disability Discrimination Act 1992).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to motivate and empower individuals.
  • Understanding of diverse disabilities and their potential impact on employment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and written communication skills.
