ACT Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability (DSID) aims to improve the quality life for people living with intellectual disability by providing support and information to their families, carers, schools, employers and other organisations.

We are looking for an Employment Connector to work with us on our Employment Program!

Our Employment Program supports businesses in their journey of inclusive employment. We work with businesses to develop suitable positions and make real change in the workplace.

This is a contract position until April 2025 with the possibility of extension offered under the SCHADS Award on a part time basis.

The main duties of the Employment Connector are:

  • Raise awareness of the abilities of people with intellectual disability in the workplace.
  • Liase with current and potential employers of people with intellectual disability.
  • Work with potential employers to job carve suitable roles that meet the needs of the employer and employee.
  • Source suitable positions for people with intellectual disability.
  • Support employers to job carve and provide information and training.
  • Work with people with intellectual disability pre and post placement to ensure viability of the role.
  • Possibility of facilitating workshops/ information sessions.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • High level of attention to detail required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and work independently essential.
  • Working with Vulnerable Peoples Check.
  • Tertiary qualifications are highly regarded but not essential.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the disability sector or lived experience.
  • Experience in previous client facing roles with vulnerable people.
  • First Aid Certificate.

We welcome applications from people with disabilities and or people with live experience of disability. Our office is located up a flight of stairs and is not wheelchair accessible, however, flexible working arrangements would be considered if necessary.
