ACT Down Syndrome & Intellectual Disability (DSID) aims to improve the quality of life for people living with intellectual disability by providing support and information to their families, carers, schools, employers and other organisations.

We are looking for an Employment Connector to work with us on our Employment Program!

Our Employment Program supports businesses in their journey of inclusive employment. We work with businesses to develop suitable positions and make real change in the workplace.

This is a contract position offered for 1 -2 days per week under the SCHADS Award (level 3/ 4) until June 30, 2025 with the possibility of extension.

The main duties of the Employment Connector are:

  • Raise awareness of the abilities of people with intellectual disability in the workplace
  • Liase with current and potential employers of people with intellectual disability
  • Work with potential employers to job carve suitable roles that meet the needs of the employer and employee
  • Source suitable positions for people with intellectual disability
  • Support employers to job carve and provide information and training
  • Work with people with intellectual disability pre and post placement to ensure viability of the role.
  • Possibility of facilitating workshops/ information sessions.
  • Other administrative duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Experience working with people with intellectual disability.
  • Post school qualifications in disability, education, social science, etc.
  • High level of attention to detail required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and work independently essential.
  • Current drivers licence essential, including access to a private vehicle for work purposes.
  • Prior to commencing this role, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the disability sector or lived experience
  • Experience in previous client facing roles with vulnerable people
  • First Aid Certificate
