We focus on strengthening relationships, promoting respect and creating employment and education opportunities for Indigenous people. AFL SportsReady’s works with trainees located across Australia, with our head office based in Melbourne.
THE ROLE
Supporting our First Nations team, the First Nations Program Manager will lead with purpose, to achieve objectives, develop funding submissions and provide reporting for the First Nations Programs area. The role develops, implements and evaluates projects, and leads the organisation’s culture competency work, including activities to drive cultural safety in the workplace.
The successful candidate will be versatile and adaptable, and willing to support other National organisational activities as required and may involve irregular interstate travel.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Management and leadership of the First Nations Program team
- Active participation in senior leadership planning and strategic objectives
- Manage national First Nations Mentors to balance caseloads and project requirements
- Develop funding submissions for grants, tenders and funding proposals, reporting on the outcomes
- Develop and manage project planning, development and implementation
- Lead the organisation’s efforts to embed the Reconciliation Action Plan’s goals and targets, and develop initiatives
- Lead the organisation’s cultural competency work, including activities to drive cultural safety

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
The following are essential requirements of the role:
- First Nations identified candidate
- Relevant qualifications and / or sector experience
- Established network across First Nations organisations, government agencies and industry
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of First Nations Education and Employment programs and services
- Demonstrated understanding of the barriers First Nations young people may face, particularly in relation to education and employment
- Well-developed written communication skills including development of proposals, submissions, evaluation reports and / or tenders and funding acquittals
- Experience leading a team of First Nations employees; providing culturally safe workplace experiences while balancing performance objectives
- Demonstrated project management experience (including developing, implementing and evaluating)
- Proven organisational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines and targets
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve successful outcomes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- Current Driver's Licence
- Current State-based Working with Children Clearance or the willingness to obtain a Clearance for the relevant state
Demonstrated experience working in a team to deliver employment and / or education programs, and e knowledge of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector is desirable but not mandatory.
