Primary Purpose of the role

Oversee WHS activities, ensure compliance, and promote wellbeing across all sites and operations. Support the HR Manager in developing safety strategies and programs. Collaborate to address health needs, implement programs, manage risks, conduct investigations, and foster a culture of safety while upholding ALS's values.

Born out of a protest movement over 50 years ago, the ALS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in NSW and the ACT. About the role

The Wellbeing and Safety Coordinator operates within the Human Resources portfolio, and forms part of the wider Shared Services team.

The Wellbeing and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Oversee WHS Committee and stakeholder engagement: Manage meetings, build relationships, collaborate across the business, and partner with Marketing for program promotion.
  • Develop and implement health and safety initiatives: Coordinate wellbeing programs, seek innovative solutions, apply evidence-based practices, and deliver safety training.
  • Lead WHS strategy and communication: Develop and monitor annual WHS programs, maintain communication mediums, and uphold ALS's values.
  • Conduct incident management and risk mitigation: Facilitate investigations, perform root cause analysis, assist in hazard identification and risk control, and coordinate with Case Management providers.
  • Ensure legislative compliance and emergency preparedness: Maintain knowledge of WHS legislation, ensure Fire Wardens and First Aid Officers are in place, and maintain emergency procedures and equipment.
  • Manage administrative tasks and reporting: Effectively plan priorities, document and report hazards timely.
  • Foster community and client relations: Protect client and staff rights, engage proactively with the community, and promote a culture of safety and respect.

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • 2+ years WHS experience
  • Knowledge of WHS legislation
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and in team environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft products
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A proactive approach to safety culture
  • Cultural awareness and respect
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
