Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) is seeking an Events Officer, who will be responsible for the development, coordination and delivery of the ANROWS events program, including the biennial conference, the ongoing webinar program and partner engagement-related events.

This role will be integral in supporting ANROWS to achieve our strategic goals and helping us to contribute to ending violence against women. The role will work closely with the Director, Evidence to Action and across the ANROWS team.

The tasks will include:

  • Event program coordination;
  • Speaker, contractor and delegate management/liaison;
  • Budget management;
  • Communications planning;
  • Event promotion;
  • Coordination of registrations;
  • Stakeholder engagement; and
  • Logistical management of online and in-person events. 

The role will also involve working closely with services who provide technological, logistical and accessibility support.

About ANROWS

ANROWS’s mission is to be the authoritative voice to create and communicate high-quality evidence through targeted research, in support of the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022-2032.

ANROWS is funded primarily by the Commonwealth and state and territory governments of Australia to assist them in achieving the National Plan’s vision of women and their children living free from violence and in safe communities.

About the position

This is a 1.0 FTE position (37.5 hours per week), reporting to the Director, Evidence to Action, and is located at the ANROWS national office in Sydney CBD. The appointment is initially for a period of (2) two years.

Remuneration and Leave Entitlements

The salary range for this position is $89,993 to $95,481 per annum plus 11% employer contributions to the employee’s chosen superannuation fund. ANROWS staff are entitled to 4 weeks annual leave (and Christmas shutdown period on top of this), in addition to a range of other leave entitlements.

Key Responsibilities

Focal point for driving the design and delivery of the ANROWS event program, including, but not limited to:

  • Oversee the development of ANROWS’s webinar program. This will include developing the webinar program and content in conjunction with EtA project officers working on individual research projects.
  • Work with senior leadership and other key ANROWS team members to coordinate the development and delivery of the ANROWS biennial conference.
  • Developing and coordinating a range of other bespoke events responding to emerging trends, ANROWS strategic priorities and stakeholder needs. This includes face to face events, roundtables, workshops, forums and other events as required.
  • Scope, procure and coordinate service providers essential for the successful delivery of the ANROWS events program. This includes, for example, procuring venues, production companies, AUSLAN interpreters, caption services and online event platform providers. Coordination of these service providers will also include responsibilities such as developing event briefs, event run sheets, online platform content or event information packages as requested by the providers.
  • Provide support to the CEO and ANROWS Directors as required.

Selection Criteria: Essential

  • Qualifications in project or event management or a related discipline.
  • Skills and experience in planning, managing and implementing projects and events to achieve specified goals.
  • Time management skills and the ability to negotiate changing circumstances and manage competing priorities. This includes the ability to effectively determine priorities and achieve defined outcomes within strict deadlines.
  • Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and other digital technology.
  • Experience in online event management.
  • Strong communication, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to engage and liaise with stakeholders across policy, practice, academia, the community sector and the media.
  • Knowledge and understanding of accessibility and inclusiveness, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Knowledge of issues relating to violence against women and their children and a commitment to understanding and addressing unique barriers to help-seeking faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse women and children, women with disabilities, older women, rural women and LGBTQ+ and intersex people.

Selection Criteria: Desirable

  • Experience maintaining a Customer Relationship Management system.
  • Understanding of social policy and the application of research to policy, programs, and practice.
  • Experience successfully delivering a flagship national event.
  • Not-for-profit and purpose-led operating environments.
