About the Role

As a Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Lead, you will report directly to the Executive Manager – People, Culture, and Capability. This role involves planning, managing, and implementing health, safety, and employee wellbeing (HSW) initiatives across AQA. You will act as a consultant and subject matter expert, promoting HSW, increasing awareness, and ensuring compliance with legislation and workplace obligations. You will also support the development and implementation of AQA’s Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Plan and contribute to fostering a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities Include:

HSW Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Plan and strategies.
  • Promote mental health and wellbeing initiatives across the organisation.
  • Manage relationships with our Employee Assistance provider and provide reports on usage.
  • Model safe and respectful workplace behaviours.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and manage HSW risks, hazards, and incidents.
  • Develop and drive effective tools for risk identification and control.
  • Oversee incident management and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Policy and Procedure Development:

  • Co-design and review HSW policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Ensure effective and consistent implementation across AQA.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Provide timely and accurate reporting on HSW performance, trends, and emerging risks.
  • Consult with employees and apply well-researched methodologies for project design and evaluation.

Who We're Looking For

We’re seeking someone who shares our values and thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have:

Qualifications:

  • Recognised qualification in Work Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or significant high-level experience in this field.
  • Qualifications in mental health, wellbeing, or psychosocial safety (desired).
  • Qualifications in workplace training, incident investigation, and return-to-work management (desired).

Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience delivering safety leadership and managing workplace risks.
  • Proven ability to contribute to a positive safety culture and present complex information effectively.
  • High-level communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and solve multifaceted problems.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the health, community, or disability sector.
  • Experience in not-for-profit organisations.
  • Background in health, preferably as a registered nurse (ideal for assisting with inductions).
