About the Role.

Based in Carina, you will supervise a team of up to 10 full-time trainees undertaking a Certificate I in Construction delivered by our partner Registered Training Organisation, Major Training. You will guide and mentor your team to develop their skills, confidence and motivation to enter a trade career, by overseeing all community-based projects whilst passing on your trade skills and expertise. You will focus heavily on WHS and industry-based best practice. You will engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met including materials and equipment are ready for use on site. You will work closely with the Project Coordinator to identify individual’s barriers to work and learning and provide tailored support where possible. This is a unique and exciting role that makes a real difference in people’s lives whilst also assisting a local sporting club by undertaking much needed refurbishment and maintenance.

About Us

AQIA is the service delivery arm of the peak bodies for fitness, sport and active recreation in Queensland. We are a not-for-profit organisation aiming to make it easier for community-level organisations and clubs to operate in their local communities and to support their workforce (paid or volunteer). AQIA has delivered many SQW projects funded by the State Government to support disadvantaged job seekers to enter or re-enter the workforce.

About You

To be considered for this role you will need the following:

  • Trade qualified in Construction (or similar industry experience) including White Card
  • Current QBCC Builder’s Licence
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Ability to mentor & supervise people facing barriers to work and to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse groups
  • Be an enthusiastic self-starter able to meet deadlines when completing projects and tasks. 
  • Flexibility to respond effectively to changing priorities and a willingness to improvise. 
  • Ability to work harmoniously and constructively in a team setting with minimal supervision.

Previous management of similar Queensland Government community employment programs, Work for the Dole or Green Army projects would be a distinct advantage.

This is a 21-week fixed term appointment commencing in late August 2024. A competitive remuneration will be paid plus superannuation and a phone and travel allowance.
