About the graduate opportunity

The Rural and Regional Family Violence Social Work Graduate Program provides a meaningful, challenging and rewarding graduate year for new and recent graduates.

The program will recruit over 50 new or recent graduates with social work (or similar) qualifications to work in a range of family violence roles across regional Victoria. Graduate roles include victim support, perpetrator, sexual assault and Aboriginal family violence services.

The Program will support graduates as they transition into the family violence sector through:

  • monthly half-day Communities of Practice sessions, focusing on contemporary family violence issues and practice
  • additional support including training and professional development opportunities and health, safety and wellbeing supports
  • a reduced caseload to allow time to attend training, professional development, supervision, and mentoring.

These positions are for 12 months, with funding available to contribute towards any moving costs.

About the Orange Door

The Orange Door provides a new way for women, children and young people experiencing family violence, and families in need of support with the care, development and wellbeing of children and young people, to access coordinated support from community, health and justice services. The Orange Door also focuses on perpetrators of family violence to keep them in view and plays a role in holding them accountable for their actions and changing their behaviour. The Orange Door team members are an integrated, collaborative team from The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre, Bethany Community Support, Colac Area Health and Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative.

About the Role

This Graduate role is based in the Barwon Orange Door (Geelong), however you will initially commence working a combination of remotely from home and in the office due to coronavirus (COVID-19). You must have a confidential space within your home and reliable internet connection to work remotely.

As a Graduate Family Violence Practitioner, you will work within the multi-disciplinary Orange Door team and learn to deliver high quality, safe and effective service responses to Victorians seeking support and services through The Orange Door.

You will be guided through receiving and managing low risk family violence referrals for women and children to The Orange Door including client screening, assessment, crisis responses, service planning, targeted interventions, allocation and coordinated referrals consistent with the Orange Door operational and practice guidelines, relevant risk assessment tools and frameworks. This is a fast paced, brief intervention case management role with potential to progress into permanent employment.

About You

You will be a values driven person, motivated to make a difference with a desire to hold the client at the centre of everything you do. You are passionate and knowledgeable about family violence with a Bachelor Qualification in social work or a related field.

The successful candidate will be required to maintain a current Working With Children's check and National Police Check at their own expense.
