POSITION SUMMARY

batyr’s Lived Experience team works alongside young people who have a lived experience of mental ill-health to ensure they feel heard and connected and supports them to transform their experiences into a tool for positive change. The Storytelling Coordinator is a core part of the Lived Experience team, which sits within batyr’s Impact Team. The role will be expected to collaborate with other teams at batyr including: Programs, Marketing and Fundraising and Partnerships.

The role is responsible for the administration of batyr’s pool of 150+ storytellers and lived experience educators. This primarily involves taking a data-informed approach to staffing and scheduling the right people for batyr’s programs and activities, onboarding new storytellers, and supporting the ongoing engagement and wellbeing of batyr’s lived experience network. This role will report to the Lived Experience Storytelling Manager based in Sydney.

All candidates will need to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check, or be willing to obtain these within one (1) month of starting the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Staff and schedule storytellers and educators for batyr’s programs and activities Nationally
  • Review data and attend various meetings to gather information to make informed decisions about program and activity staffing
  • Check in with and support young people who have a lived experience of mental ill-health by providing information and resources, and empowering them to take charge of their mental health and wellbeing
  • Support the onboarding of storytellers and educators
  • Provide feedback to storytellers and educators to support their ongoing professional development
  • Support the delivery of training for storytellers and educators
  • Support the coordination of internal and external engagement opportunities for storytellers and educators. These activities may include, but are not limited to: community fundraisers, policy and advocacy activities, consultation and advisory, research, program design, development and delivery, co-design/design thinking and media opportunities
  • Track and report on operational and strategic targets related to the Lived Experience team
  • Support the development of Lived Experience team processes to improve reach, impact and efficiency
  • Support the Lived Experience team with projects and activities as required
  • Contribute to, or extend on, the broader culture, mission and strategy at batyr, including supporting other team’s with their objectives where required

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES

  • Ability to efficiently and consistently follow administrative processes with excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to juggle different priorities and work well under pressure
  • Experience staffing/scheduling/rostering networks of contractors, staff or volunteers
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and written
  • Ability to connect with young people in an engaging and authentic way
  • High level of empathy, with the ability to support young people with a lived experience of mental ill-health while maintaining emotional boundaries
  • A working understanding of best practices around lived experience engagement, safe language and working with young people
  • Ability to show initiative and employ critical thinking
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

Desirable Qualities

  • 1+ year working in the mental health sector
  • Proven experience in youth/volunteer/lived experience engagement/advocacy
  • Proven experience in group facilitation
  • Project coordination experience
  • Certified Mental Health First Aid practitioner
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours if required
