About this Position

The Senior Adviser (Workplaces SME), within the Strategy, Policy and Advice Unit is responsible for providing subject matter expert advice on workplace mental health and related topics and collaborating with teams across the organisation and supporting our corporate and community partners. With a focus on the “Integrity” and “Leading” goals of Strategy 2023+, the position contributes to ensuring that Beyond Blue’s products and services are informed by expert strategic and tactical advice about what will work best to support mental health at an individual, community and societal level.

The role

The Senior Adviser will focus on supporting building consistency, capacity and capability across the organisation to deliver priority strategic projects and programs, with a particular focus on workplace settings. The role supports the Executive through strategic advice about workplace mental health, supports the development of content across channels, and provides strategic advice to stakeholders and businesses, including Beyond Blue Corporate Partners.

The key duties of this role include:

Subject matter expert advisory:

  • Contribute subject matter and community expertise in relation to topics relevant to Strategy 2023+, including workplace mental health, mental health and wellbeing literacy, prevention, earlier intervention, behaviour change, and reducing stigma and discrimination.
  • Collaborate with other program areas / operational teams within Beyond Blue to provide evidence-based subject matter advice to inform digital content, advocacy, product development, services, communications or other relevant activities.
  • Provide advice and organisational support to the Executive, Heads and relevant Managers including support to prepare reports, presentations, briefs, correspondence, facilitating teleconferences and face to face meetings as needed.

Stakeholder management - Knowledge translation and exchange:

  • Providing relevant information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the translation, communication and promotion of evidence, insights and Beyond Blue activities throughout the community, to encourage community action for mental health.
  • Facilitate key relationships across the organisation and ensuring that the team’s activities and outcomes reflect the business needs of the organisation.
  • Lead, coordinate and manage cross-functional working groups as appropriate.
  • In close collaboration with the stakeholder relations and partnerships team, build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, in particular, critical strategic stakeholders and partners. Identify opportunities to collaborate with stakeholders to advance Strategy 2023+.
  • Represent Beyond Blue publicly at conferences, events, and meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic advice to Beyond Blue Corporate Partners.

About you

To be successful you will hold:

  • Essential - Relevant tertiary qualifications in public health, health promotion, social sciences or a related discipline.
  • Essential - Evidence of continued professional development and/or professional experience relevant to the role purpose and level.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Expertise in mental health – specialist knowledge of workplace mental health approaches.
  • Proven experience and ability to analyse, synthesise and communicate complex information for different audience, and identify implications.
  • Proven experience advising and supporting across teams, fostering strong and sustainable internal stakeholder relationships, to help gain buy-in and deliver results.
  • Experience in cross-organisational capability building. Experience developing and rolling out content and collateral information.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with colleagues to identify and assess strategic issues and opportunities through a community centric and evidence-informed approach.
  • Proven ability to prepare a variety of types of documentation for both internal and external audiences, including budgets, work schedules, briefing notes, correspondence and reports with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to conceptually analyse information.
  • The ability to effectively build and maintain positive external working relationships, including strong negotiation and influencing skills.
