About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced children’s services worker to join Bonnie Support Services. You will work as part of a specialist team supporting children and young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who have experienced domestic and family violence. You will work with children who are living in Bonnie’s crisis or transitional accommodation; providing child care sessions, therapeutic play opportunities and a protective behaviours program in response to children’s individual needs and circumstances

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Provide child care for the children of women attending Bonnie’s group programs or individual support sessions with Bonnie’s staff. This could be in either Bonnie’s Children’s Space or crisis/transitional accommodation.
  • Develop and facilitate children’s activities and therapeutic play opportunities and flexibly deliver Bonnie’s protective behaviours program for children as part of child care support sessions.
  • Support other Bonnie’s team members when they are delivering group programs for children and young people.

About you

We are looking for someone who is experienced in working with children and young people, preferably working with children who have experienced trauma. The role would suit someone who likes to work collaboratively as part of a team and who is interested in working in a feminist organisation which helps women and children escape domestic and family violence and homelessness.

Essential

  • Relevant experience and qualifications in Early Childhood Education and Care at Certificate III level
  • Sound knowledge of child development
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma on child development, attachment and the mother-child relationship
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality early learning experiences that are safe, stimulating and supportive
  • Understanding of the issues impacting women and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who are victim/survivors of family and domestic violence
  • Ability to provide culturally responsive supports to First Nations women, children and communities
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively in a team and to develop positive relationships with both other staff and families
  • Ability to identify and assess significant risk of harm and enact mandatory reporting responsibilities
  • Computer literacy
  • Must be willing to undergo Working with Children Check and National Police Check
  • Current Driver’s Licence

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications in Early Childhood Education and Care at Diploma level
  • Experience working with children who have experienced trauma
  • Experience and/or training in using play as a therapeutic and educational tool with children, with a passion to build your skills in this area
