Carers Victoria is a leading not-for-profit organisation, working to make sure that the almost one million unpaid carers across the state are understood, recognised and supported. We do this by providing information, advice and respite services to carers; by hosting education sessions and events to support them in their role; by gathering and analysing data and producing reports about carers and what they need; and by raising broad awareness of carers across the whole community. We are in a significant period of change, looking at how we can reach and support even more carers through innovative models, systems and thinking.

The Position

The Carer Support Advisor provides emotional support, system/sector navigation, information, advice and access/referrals to services for carers. This phone based, clinical role undertakes a thorough needs assessment that guides the development of an individualised care support plan. As a Carer Support Advisor, you will connect carers with vital services to ensure they can access respite opportunities, educational events, and support networks.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Screening, triage, clinical assessment, care support planning, risk assessments, referrals and brokerage, utilising a brief intervention model.
  • Capturing unmet demand for services as presented by caring families and friends to support people’s quality of life, physical and psychological wellbeing and social connections.
  • Assisting with the promotion and awareness of activities across the organisation and external service providers.
  • You may also be required to attend carer events and groups as needed

The Person

This exciting opportunity will suit an individual who is looking for a role that makes a difference. This is impactful role, focuses on improving outcomes for Carers in our community. To be successful in this role you will have:

  • At least three years’ experience in delivering phone-based support
  • The ability to hit the ground running in this fast-paced role is essential. This is a constantly evolving role and the capacity to keep learning and to adapt to change is critical.
  • Aged Care, NDIS and Mental Health, My Aged Care, Community Home Supported Programme experience is desirable.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Community Development, Community services or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability for autonomy, problem solving and decisive clinical action.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and monitor workflow within areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with groups.
  • Knowledge of existing service systems and local providers is ideal.
  • Understanding of Child Safety Legislation and a commitment to child safety practice.
