An exciting new opportunity exists at Central Australian Women’s Legal Service to join our Tennant Creek team.

CAWLS is a busy community legal practice with a vibrant and dedicated team committed to providing representation and excellent outcomes for our clients through legal advice and representation and wrap around support. Many of our clients are women who have experienced or are experiencing Domestic and Family violence.

We are seeking a self-motivated candidate with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic to support our legal practitioners based in Tennant Creek. Excellent ongoing training and on the job support will be provided to the successful applicant.

You will be responsible for

  • Front of House/Reception duties including answering telephone & greeting clients attending the office & ensuring the office is opened and closed securely each day.
  • Assisting the Operations Manager to maintain the daily operations of the Tennant Creek office.
  • Data entry required for internal data collection systems.
  • Supporting the Legal team to ensure clients & other persons attending the office are attended to in a trauma informed and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Assisting clients and lawyers to prepare and during advice clinics, outreach visits and at other locations as directed.
  • Provide non legal support to CAWLS clients, including court and interagency support meetings.
  • Facilitate referrals and other services and support, based on the needs of the clients, including travel to and from appointments.
  • Participating in projects and activities contributing to the promotion of CAWLS such as stalls at community events.
  • Other administration tasks as required.

Formal qualifications are not required for this position however previous experience working in an office environment is a requirement including:

  • Demonstrated ability in the use of computer software programs in particular MS Word & MS Excel and Outlook.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of cultural and social groups.
  • Excellent attention to detail and written skills when communicating with others, both internally within the organisation and externally
  • Accomplish tasks effectively within time frame given and carry out administrative duties in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
