About the team
This role sits within the Finance team which forms part of the Finance Strategy & Operations (FSO) Division. The FSO Division supports CCNSW’s strategic ambition by enabling and facilitating the building of a future ready and sustainable organisation.
About the role
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll, managing payroll compliance and collaborating closely with the People & Culture Division to ensure seamless employee compensation and benefits administration.
This role is part time – 3 days per week. This role will be a 12 month contact.
Key responsibilities of the role
Payroll Management
- Lead on the implementation of Employment Hero until to ‘Go-Live’ date in February 2025.
- Administer the end-to-end payroll processing with precision.
- Responsibility for employee payroll data within the payroll system, ensuring accuracy in compensation, leave accruals, benefits, tax withholding, superannuation, PAYG, worker compensation declaration, month-end and year-end processes Lead on compliance with all payroll-related legislation, including STP reporting, PAYG, Payroll tax.
- Resolve employee payroll-related inquiries in a timely manner.
- Responsibility for, in consultation with People & Culture Division, payroll data integrity, coordinating on issues such as award interpretation, payroll system rules, and other compliance matters.
- Work collaboratively with People & Culture Division to ensure payroll alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.
Payroll Process Improvement
- Ensure that CCNSW’s Employment Hero payroll system configuration aligns with CCNSW policies, employment legislation and Awards, in collaboration with People & Culture, to support compliance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, streamline payroll operations and implement automation where possible.
Finance & Reporting
- Produce all required post payroll reports following each pay run.
- Produce payroll budget data for Finance during budgeting review.
- Assist the Payroll and Finance Coordinator in reconciling payroll ledger accounts, general ledger cost centres, and employee benefit provisions to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Monitor Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) and produce comprehensive reports to ensure efficient and optimal workforce allocation.
- Provide leave reporting to assist managers with proactive leave management.
- Assist the Payroll and Finance Coordinator in conducting the annual audit of annualised salaries.
About you
Essential
- 3 – 5 years payroll experience in a medium or large sized organisation with over 200 staff on the payroll
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Human Resources or extensive relevant experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong knowledge of Payroll Legislation, PAYG Tax, Superannuation and Salary Packaging, ensuring that payroll processes and systems are compliant
- Interpretation and application of Awards
- Proficiency with payroll and HRIS systems, such as Employment Hero, is essential
- Experience with process improvement, including HRIS implementation
- Proficiency in configuring and managing payroll systems, including rule setup for accurate processing, troubleshooting, and alignment with employment conditions
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle payroll related enquiries efficiently
- Proven proactive approach to work
Desirable
- Relevant certifications in Payroll such as Certificate IV in Payroll Administration or Diploma of Payroll Management
- Previous exposure to a Not for Profit organisation
- Experience in Employment Hero
