  • Salary Range: $74,580 to $104,762 (effective 1st Dec 2023) Salary is determined on level of skills and experience
  • Term of Employment: 12 months fixed term
  • Accountability: The position is accountable to the Assistant Branch Secretary through the relevant Team Leader 

The CPSU Industrial Officers’ primary role is to represent CPSU members on industrial matters and provide advice and assistance on individual CPSU members’ issues. The role also includes ensuring employer compliance with the relevant industrial instruments and legislation and may require representing the CPSU at industrial tribunals and hearings. The Entitlements and Compliance Team (ECT) carries out these tasks individually with support and guidance from team members and the team leader. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide a high quality responsive industrial service to members. Provide industrial advice, support and representation of members in meetings with employers, government representatives and in tribunal settings as the case may be. (Tribunal cases to be the subject of authorisation by the Team Leader and Branch Secretary). 
  • Respond to general and specific industrial enquiries by telephone on a rotating roster system, and also respond to email enquiries as appropriate.
  • Assess each enquiry to determine the most appropriate way to resolve the presenting issue and to educate and motivate members and delegates to achieve the identified outcome.
  • Responsible for all matters pertaining to individual member cases assigned to them by the Team Leader via the casetracking system. Ensure that all cases are kept fully up to date in relation to all correspondence (including emails), comments in relation to activities and/or progress on a regular basis.
  • Industrial Officers are responsible for ensuring that “inactive” cases are closed with the appropriate annotations.
  • Attend team meetings.
  • Assess Member enquiries for Organising Potential to be transferred to the Membership Development Team.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Commitment to unionism, equal opportunity and social justice.
  • Computer Literacy
  • High level written and verbal communication skills including the ability to provide information to diverse audiences
  • Skills required to resolve industrial and membership issues and deal with difficult people or situations on the telephone
  • Experience and knowledge of, or the capacity to acquire knowledge of:
    • the organising model;
    • industrial instruments (including Awards and Enterprise Agreements) and relevant legislation; and
    • union structures and operations. 
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage own workload and meet required deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Experience as an organiser, information officer or industrial officer with a trade union.
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence

  • Travel to Regional Victoria and/or interstate will be required from time to time.
