About the Role

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide health care for Aboriginal women and to Co-ordinate the day-to-day tasks and assigned duties of Sexual health Nurses within Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service. This will be a Fixed term Full-time contract which expires on 30 June 2025.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Clinical and other services
    1. Coordinate visiting Gynaecologists and Women’s Health Clinics and assist with minor procedures.
    2. Maintain specialty stock supplies for the clinics.
    3. Support and promote the integration of cervical, mammogram and STI screening, into routine primary health care, including adult health checks.
    4. Practice according to:
      1. ASHM or the Silver-book WA STI/BBV management guidelines,
      2. National Cervical Screening Program guidelines
      3. FSRH contraceptive guidelines
      4. National program guidelines for Point of Care Syphilis testing.
    5. Providing cervical screening, STI screening/management and contraceptive care (including contraceptive implant insertion and removal) under the supervision of a Medical officer.
    6. Oversee the management of recalls and reminders for STIs/BBVs including vaccinations, cervical and mammogram screening, contraceptives such as injectables, implants and IUD/IUS and vaginal pessary follow-up review.
    7. Provide evidence based STI/BBV clinical management to symptomatic clients and named contacts including testing, treatment, contact tracing and follow-up
    8. Work collaboratively with other staff including Medical staff, other Nursing staff, Receptionists, Aboriginal Health Workers/Liaison Officers and the Programs Services Team on client care.
    9. Promote, deliver and utilise the “test and treat” model using point of care tests (PoCT) to allow for immediate screening and treatment of Syphilis.
    10. Act as a clinical resource to support and develop other members of the health team.
    11. Disseminate culturally appropriate health, communication and education materials to promote awareness of women’s health issues.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as aRegistered Nurse.
  • Minimum of 3 years post clinical experience as a registered Sexual health nurse and post graduate qualifications in Sexual Health and Vaccination or willingness to obtain within agreed timeframe.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for own actions and to practice in accordance with the Registered Nurse Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of communicable disease control, harm reduction, and issues related to transmission and prevention of HIV, STIs and Blood Borne Viruses (BBV's).
  • Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology, written and verbal means with sound interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people.
  • Demonstrate organisational and problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • A commitment to quality improvement, practice development, evidence-based practice and research.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide the provision of culturally safe and appropriate services to Aboriginal clients.

Desirable

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Provision of the minimum identity proofing requirements;

  • Successful Working with Children Check
  • Evidence of a current C or C-A Class driver’s licence or other specialised licence class
