Detour House Inc is seeking a supportive, proactive and highly motivated Housing Support Worker to focus on securing and supporting clients to access and maintain long term housing, build partnerships with housing providers and outreach case management across our alcohol and other drug treatment and transitional housing service for adult women at Detour House.

ABOUT US

Detour House Inc provides accommodation and care to women and girls in Sydney’s inner-west through two services: Detour House and The Girls Refuge. Through these services, Detour House Inc provides a trauma-informed safe place for women to stay, gain greater stability in their lives, and realise their potential. Our services are specialist homelessness services, focused on reducing the incidence of homelessness experienced by women.

THE PROGRAM

Detour House delivers an abstinence-based alcohol and other drug residential rehabilitation program for adult women. At Detour House, we equip women with knowledge, tools and strategies to successfully transition back into every-day life after completing detox and short-term rehabilitation programs. Detour House is one of only a handful of alcohol and other drug treatment services in NSW that focuses on providing this transitional support back into every-day life.

THE ROLE

The Housing Support Worker position will focus on seeking and securing long term housing options for clients exiting the residential program and delivering case management support for clients exiting our residential rehabilitation program.

The Housing Support Worker position will focus on coordinating support for clients to secure and sustain housing, to access services that assist with recovery and community integration, support for clients to reconnect with family and to access employment opportunities.

The current role is offered under a fixed-term contract for 22.5 hours per week, for 12 months - January 2025 until January 2026. There is the possibility of extension beyond this period.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, community services, counselling or similar (minimum Certificate IV in AOD or equivalent) or 3 years demonstrated case management experience, applying a trauma-informed approach to practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the service system and referral networks relevant to service users of Detour House (e.g., housing, domestic and family violence, mental health, emergency relief, AOD and other health services)
  • Knowledge of community and other housing providers
  • Knowledge and understanding of NSW tenancy laws
  • Strong organisational skills, ideally with experience in coordinating activities and workshops
  • Sound computer skills, including confidence in utilising client databases and engaging with clients through digital platforms (e.g., Teams).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Demonstrated skill in and understanding of relevant therapeutic and intervention strategies such as CBT, DBT, 12-step program frameworks, and/or motivational interviewing
  • Working knowledge of the Client Information Management System (CIMS)
  • Experience in group work
  • Experience working within the Specialist Homelessness Sector and/or tenancy support services

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Current NSW Driver's License
  • COVID Vaccination
  • Clear Working with Children and National Criminal History Record checks (or willingness to obtain these prior to commencement)
  • First Aid Certificate
