ABOUT US

Detour House Inc provides accommodation and care to women and girls in Sydney’s inner-west through two services: Detour House and The Girls Refuge. Through these services, Detour House Inc provides a trauma-informed safe place for women and girls to stay, gain greater stability in their lives, and realise their potential. Our services are specialist homelessness services, focused on reducing the incidence of homelessness experienced by women and girls.

THE PROGRAM

The Girls Refuge is a safe, home-like environment for teenage girls who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or going through a difficult time and whose families need some extra support. We also provide support in the community for girls and young women living independently or with their families. Girls can stay at our refuge, located in Sydney’s inner west, for up to three months.

THE ROLE

The role will be responsible for the coordination and development of service delivery and team capability, with the aim of delivering high quality services at The Girls Refuge which resolve crisis and promote empowerment.

The Service Coordinator position will deliver day to day management of case workers and youth workers employed at The Girls Refuge.

The Chief Executive Officer will have supervisory oversight and direction of your work. This includes Human Resource accountabilities and responsibilities. There is an expectation that each employee will participate in training, supervision, team building and clinical development

Please note: Due to the complex nature of its female clients, Detour House only employs female staff and is exempted under the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Criteria:

  • At least 2 years demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in case management of clients with complex needs, at risk and/or experiencing homelessness, including sound knowledge of integrated case management theory and best practice principles for young people.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the youth sector, Juvenile Justice, Out of Home Care system and protection agencies and Specialist Homelessness Services.
  • Experience in the homelessness services field and Working knowledge of the Going Home Staying Home reform, program and guidelines.
  • Delivering quality customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal presentation skills, diplomatic and effective liaison and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide detailed reports and collect statistics for program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated planning, organisational and excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to organise meetings and committees, coordinate and distribute papers and agendas, take minutes and establish/maintain files.
  • Excellent IT skills in programs including Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point and Access.
  • Experience in CIMS/ VALIDATA data management and recording - or a willingness to learn.
  • A current NSW Drivers licence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working in the SHS and /or youth sector
  • Relevant degree or post graduate qualifications

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Current NSW Driver's License
  • Clear Working with Children and National Criminal History Record checks (or willingness to obtain these prior to commencement).
  • COVID 19 Vaccination
  • First Aid Certificate
