Womensline is a 24/7/365 free crisis helpline for women and children across Queensland experiencing domestic and family violence. We operate from an intersectional feminist framework, acknowledging that domestic and family violence is gender-based violence, predominantly perpetrated by men against women and children.

We provide immediate individualised support and options to help victim/survivors feel safe again, whether they want to stay in the home, are thinking about leaving or have already left.

Role Overview

  • Permanent part-time or casual positions for that perfect work-life balance!
  • Located at our Central Brisbane (QLD) Office
  • Remuneration: SCHADS 3.1 [Pay point is dependent on qualifications and relevant experience] + 11 % Super + penalty rates & NFP Salary Packaging.

Counsellor Support Workers play a significant role in facilitating appropriate support to women and children impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence across Queensland. Being a phone-based service, incoming phone calls are to be handled with a professional, culturally sensitive, and non-judgmental approach to ensure appropriate action is taken to maintain client safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arranging emergency accommodation and travel
  • Assisting with referral pathway procedures
  • Managing the client and service telephone lines
  • Ensure database and QHIP entries are of high quality and accuracy
  • Build and foster positive relationships with external stakeholders

Role Requirements

It is a genuine requirement that for the role to be filled by a woman as permitted in sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1991.

  1. Tertiary qualification (or working towards completion) relevant areas such as Social, Behavioural and Criminology sciences OR obtained appropriate social and community services certifications/qualifications.
  2. Minimum 1 year experience in social and community service sector(s).
  3. Sound knowledge about gender-based violence and underpinnings of domestic, family, and sexual violence.
  4. Significant demonstrated ability to manage sensitive situations in a calm manner.
  5. Quality, timeliness, and accuracy in presentation of work.
  6. Highly developed IT and phone-based skills.
  7. Positive Notice Blue Card, National Police Check and valid ID or willingness to obtain.
  8. Right to work in Australia.
  9. Willingness to undertake further training and development.
  10. Must be able to work from the office (No WFH arrangements).
